Dr. Anthony Fauci recently said that he believes that kids over 2-years-old should be forced to wear masks in school. The outrage has grown from parents fed up with the mask mandates and the crazy demands from Dr. Fauci. Calls for him to be fired or resign are increasing, especially after this latest comment.

Tucker Carlson blasts Dr. Fauci’s recommendation that children – with low risk & low spread – should be wearing masks. “This is just pure craziness. There’s not actually a lot of debate in the science about [Fauci’s] guidance. It’s nuts, and it hurts kids.”

Senator Rand Paul is right when he says Fauci doesn’t want to debate:

DeSantis: No mask mandates, lockdowns in response to ‘seasonal pattern’ COVID-19 spike

With one-fifth of the nation’s surging COVID-19 infections reported in Florida, school boards are faced with conflicting guidance on whether students should wear masks when the 2021-22 school year begins in three weeks.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) this week updated school COVID-19 guidelines, calling for “universal masking” for students over age 2, even if they’ve been vaccinated.

AAP’s advisory won’t change the federal Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s (CDC) guidance, at least for now, the Biden administration said.

The CDC recommends, but doesn’t mandate, children younger than 12 – who cannot as yet be vaccinated – wear masks this fall.

All 67 Florida school districts are planning “a full return to in-class instruction” this fall. As of Friday, none had mandated students wear masks.

Miami-Dade Schools and the Palm Beach County School District are among districts that issued statements clarifying they have no plans to change optional mask policies.

Orange and Broward county school board members are among those who’ve expressed alarm over the Delta variant-fueled COVID-19 outbreak and the mixed messaging on how vulnerable children are. Several will view options next week.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said he’ll make it easy for school boards by banning mandated-masking via executive order or by calling lawmakers into a special session.

“We look forward to this upcoming year to be a normal school year, be in person, and live like normal and learn like normal kids,” he said Thursday at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.

“There’s been talk about potentially people advocating at the federal level, imposing compulsory masks on kids,” DeSantis continued. “We’re not doing that in Florida, OK? We need our kids to breathe. We need our kids to be able to be kids.”

Parents, not the government, will determine what’s best for Florida students, he said,

“Parents obviously can equip their kids to go to school however they want, but there shouldn’t be any coercive mandates on our schools,” DeSantis said.

“As of now,” he said, no Florida district he is aware of is planning to require unvaccinated students or faculty wear masks but there’s “a campaign from Washington to try to change that.”

If CDC guidance changes, DeSantis said he’s discussed calling a special session with House Speaker Rep. Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor, “to do something from the legislative perspective” in mandating no mask mandates.

“At the end of the day,” he said, “we got to start putting our kids first. We got to look out for their education. Is it really comfortable? Is it really healthy for them to be muzzled and have their breathing obstructed all day long in school? I don’t think it is.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday said CDC’s guidance that masks be optional hasn’t changed, but said DeSantis’ threat to take decisions out of locally elected officials’ hands “puts kids at risk.”

“If I were a parent in Florida,” Psaki said, “that would be greatly concerning to me.”

The AAP Monday recommended children over age 2 wear masks, citing concerns about the more transmissible Delta variant, especially in communities with low vaccination rates, differing from CDC’s July 9 optional mask guidance for 12-and-under.

DeSantis called the state’s COVID-19 surge a “seasonal pattern” that will dissipate and said his stance against mask mandates and lock-downs is “science-based.”

“If anyone is calling for lockdowns, you’re not getting that done in Florida,” he said. “I’m going to protect people’s livelihoods. I’m going to protect kids’ right to go to school. I’m going to protect people’s right to run their small businesses.”

Facebook faces lawsuit for suspending user who cited lack of evidence for masking children

An influential COVID policy skeptic is threatening to sue Facebook for suspending his account based on a graphic he posted Tuesday, titled “Masking Children is Impractical and Not Backed by Research or Real World Data.”

Justin Hart was identified in a recent MIT paper as one of a handful of “anchors” for the anti-mask network on Twitter. He’s also chief data analyst for the COVID contrarian website Rational Ground.

warning letter to Facebook from Hart’s lawyers at the Liberty Justice Center said the graphic was “science-based and contains footnotes to scientific evidence supporting its claims.” Facebook issued him a three-day suspension the next day, citing the post as misinformation. The page remains live but the post is no longer there.

Hart’s mask argument is similar to one made recently by University of California San Francisco epidemiologist Vinay Prasad. “No one has any clue” if the benefits of masking children outweigh the risks, he wrote in MedPage Today. “During the last year and half, the scientific community has failed to answer these questions. Failed entirely.”

The Liberty Justice Center letter invoked Facebook’s previous actions against accounts that shared the Wuhan lab-leak theory for COVID’s origins — a posture it changed this spring after the Biden administration said the theory was plausible. Now as then, Facebook should “admit its error” and let posts like Hart’s remain on the platform as an “equally valid scientific hypothesis.”

The letter doesn’t provide an explicit legal basis for suing. Hart cited loss of income and personal damages in a Twitter direct message to Just the News. He said he posted the same graphic that another user tweeted months earlier.Tweet URL

The letter said Hart has paid Facebook to promote many of his posts intended to build his social media consultancy. While suspended he can’t contact his followers on Facebook, and they can’t contact him.

He’s also unable to serve as administrator of a client’s Facebook page, and he has suffered “reputational and emotional harm by having the validity of his posts questioned.”

Liberty Justice Center gave Facebook until close of business Thursday to reinstate Hart. His suspension should end Saturday. Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the difference between Hart’s post and Prasad’s argument that mask evidence is too thin to make policy decisions.

California to bar unmasked students from classrooms despite relaxed CDC guidance

California’s public health office says students and teachers returning to school in the fall are going to keep their masks on when indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has released guidance that said the state’s schools would continue to enforce a mask requirement for all students, faculty and teachers.

“Recent evidence indicates that in-person instruction can occur safely without minimum physical distancing requirements when other mitigation strategies (e.g., masking) are fully implemented,” the CDPH said Monday. “This is consistent with CDC K-12 School Guidance.”

The state’s guidance breaks from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance, which was updated Friday and said students and faculty who are fully vaccinated no longer had to wear masks while in school.

“Masks should be worn indoors by all individuals (age 2 and older) who are not fully vaccinated,” the CDC said. “Consistent and correct mask use by people who are not fully vaccinated is especially important indoors and in crowded settings, when physical distancing cannot be maintained.”

One of the reasons for a universal mask rule, the CDPH said, was to prevent bullying.

“Detrimental effects of differential mask policies include: potential stigma, bullying, isolation of vaccinated OR unvaccinated students, depending on the culture and attitudes in the school or surrounding community,” the CDPH said in the release.

The guidance previously said students would be barred from attending class if they refused to wear face coverings without a medical justification. In a tweet, the CDPH appeared to walk that back to ensure schools offer some sort of remote learning plan.

“California’s school guidance will be clarified regarding masking enforcement, recognizing local schools’ experience in keeping students and educators safe while ensuring schools fully reopen for in-person instruction,” it said.

New York state and Chicago Public Schools also have announced they would continue to require everyone to wear masks in their schools. States such as Texas, Iowa and neighboring Arizona have enacted laws banning masks in schools.
