FROM THE DAILY WIRE

LATE LAST WEEK, REPUBLICAN IOWA GOV. KIM REYNOLDS “SAID SHE HAS REJECTED A FEDERAL REQUEST TO ACCEPT MIGRANT CHILDREN INTO THE STATE, SAYING THE NEED TO FIND HOMES FOR THEM ‘IS THE PRESIDENT’S PROBLEM,’” PER THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.

“THIS IS NOT OUR PROBLEM,” REYNOLDS SAID, ADDING THAT THE STATE DOES NOT HAVE ANY TEMPORARY FACILITIES TO LEND TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND HUMAN SERVICES. “THIS IS THE PRESIDENT’S PROBLEM. HE’S THE ONE THAT HAS OPENED THE BORDER, AND HE NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND HE NEEDS TO STOP IT.”

IOWA’S OWN DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, IT SEEMS, MADE THE DECISION, BASED ON WHETHER THE STATE WAS EQUIPPED TO RESPOND TO BOTH LOCAL AND FEDERAL NEEDS AMID A SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC DOWNTURN AND THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

“THIS IS DUE TO LIMITED RESOURCES AND ADMINISTRATIVE CONCERNS. WE HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO TAKE CARE OF OUR CHILDREN FIRST AND ABSENT THE RESOURCES OR A CLEAR AND COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOR FEDERAL SUPPORT, WE WERE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE THE REQUEST,” IOWA’S DIRECTOR OF HUMAN SERVICES SAID IN A STATEMENT TO THE WHITE HOUSE. “WE ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY SADDENING AND DIFFICULT SITUATION.”

Florida clears officials of wrongdoing in Epstein 2009 case, in DeSantis ordered review

Published

on

An investigation ordered by Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis has cleared Palm Beach County prosecutors and sheriff’s officials of any wrongdoing in the handling of 2009 Jeffery Epstein case.

DeSantis ordered the investigation in August 2019, just days before Epstein, billionaire financier, killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of minors and sex trafficking conspiracy, in connection with allegations of  abusing dozens of underage girls in his New York and Palm Beach mansions from 2002 to 2005.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Monday that it found no evidence of wrongdoing by the Florida officials or any evidence that Epstein received any special treatment due to bribery or influence, according to the Associated Press.

The reports said no official “was coerced, bribed or engaged in any criminal activity in the performance of their duties.”

Epstein was arrested in 2008 and plead guilty to charges of procuring a person under the age of 18 for prostitution and the felony of solicitation of prostitution.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and another 12 months of house arrest. Epstein was required to register as a sex offender.

Florida law enforcement came under scrutiny in 2018 after a series of Miami Herald articles that detailed disagreements between law enforcement officials after several teenage girls said Epstein had sexually abused them.

No indictment of Epstein was later issued.

Arizona Governor Ducey signs law to purge infrequent mail-in voters from state early-balloting list

Published

on

Arizona GOP Gov. Doug Ducey has signed a law to remove infrequent mail-in balloters from a state voter list, saying the effort will further improve election security.

“This bill is simple, it’s all about election integrity,” Ducey tweeted Tuesday, after signing the measure from the GOP-controlled legislature.

The law would require county recorders to contact residents if they have not voted for four years. If residents don’t respond, they will be permanent removed from an early-voter list.

Ducey made clear those who do not respond will remain a registered voter, can still request an early ballot and show up at polls on election day.

Arizona is among several states – including Florida and Georgia – that have either enacted or attempted to enact voting-reform laws.

Georgia GOP Governor Kemp signs bill prohibiting large cuts to police budget

Published

on

Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp signed a bill that prohibits large cuts to police budgets in a move against the “defund the police” movement.

The legislation stops cities and counties in the state from reducing their law enforcement budgets by more than 5% in one year or over the course of five years, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Radical movements like the ‘defund the police’ movement seek to vilify the men and women who leave their families every day and put their lives on the line to protect all Georgians,” Kemp said Friday as he signed the bill.

The signing of the law comes after months of protests against the police and calls by Democrat politicians such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York, and Ilhan Omar, Minnesota, to defund police forces across the country.

“This far-left movement will endanger our communities and our law enforcement officers and leave our most vulnerable at risk,” Kemp said.

The bill will also require local governments that want to cut a police budget by more than 5% to hold public hearings to discuss the change. The only exemptions of the bill include places with fewer than 25 officers or low revenue.
