The Socialist made the remarks on Monday on the Senate floor saying the United States should not be supporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government.

“I do not believe we should be appropriating over $10 billion for the right-wing extremist Netanyahu government to continue its current military approach,” Sanders (I-Vt.) said in remarks Monday on the Senate floor.

Sanders has been known as a critic of Netanyahu and had also said, “What the Netanyahu government is doing is immoral, it is in violation of international law, and the United States should not be complicit in those actions.”

However, Sanders claimed that it is okay for the U.S. to support defense systems, such as the Iron Dome, in order to protect citizens from rocket attacks.

“But I believe that it would be irresponsible for us to provide an additional $10.1 billion in unconditional military aid that will allow the Netanyahu government to continue its current offensive military approach,” he said.

Additionally, Sanders said Israel’s approach to the war has been “offensive to most Americans” and that Israel should change their way on how they are conducting the war.

The Vermont Senator has also been known for being against spending for military purposes.

Meanwhile, since hostage negotiations have stalled between both sides, Israel has expanded its military movement in Gaza, pushing into Hamas’ stronghold of Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza strip.

Additionally, the Palestine health minister said on Tuesday that almost 16,000 people have died in Gaza, according to Reuters, and close to 1.9 million people have been displaced in Gaza.

This comes after the terrorist attack by Hamas that slaughtered 1,200 people on October 7th, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry. There are still 137 hostages being held in Gaza, according to Israel.
