Peacock’s ‘Fresh Prince’ Spinoff ‘Bel-Air’ Renewed For Season 3

Bel-Air will be returning for yet another season at Peacock.

The NBCUniversal streamer has renewed its spinoff of Will Smith’s classic series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for Season 3.

The drama series, which expands on the ideas from Morgan Cooper’s viral short (which spawned The Fresh Prince), originally received a two-season order from the platform after an intense bidding war with other streamers.

The third season renewal proves the platform has gained some confidence in the show after tons of creative differences with showrunners resulted in a number of turnovers. Carla Banks Waddles became showrunner at the start of season two.

Prior to Waddles, T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson were at the helm, who took over after Chris Collins (The Wire, Sons of Anarchy) and his replacement, Diane Houston (Empire) parted ways with Bel-Air producers including Smith, Quincy Jones and Benny Medina. Brady and Newson ended up leaving the show also due to creative differences.

According to Deadline, Peacock has revealed that Bel-Air has been its most-watched original premiere and ranks as its most-watched sophomore series to date. The platform doesn’t typically release traditional viewership data,

The series, which hails from Universal Television, stars Jabari Banks in Smith’s iconic role. Tatyana Ali, who starred in the original series, recurs on the show. Waddles also exec produces along with Cooper, Anthony Sparks, Spellman, Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Benny Medina, Quincy Jones, Andy & Susan Borowitz, Brady and Newson.

Bel-Air is now one of several Peacock originals including Poker Face, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, Wolf Like Me, Killing It, Dr. Death and We Are Lady Parts, among others.
