A man hijacked a car that had an infant inside — as the child’s parents were busy unloading groceries — and then abandoned both the vehicle and baby in The Bronx, police said.
The suspect hopped in the driver’s seat of the car and hightailed it with an 8-month-old girl inside around 10:30 p.m. Thursday on East 175th Street and Mohegan Avenue in East Morrisania, according to the NYPD.
Security footage of the brazen theft showed one of the baby’s parents frantically chasing the carjacker as he tore away in the black sedan.
When the suspect realized the infant was in the vehicle, he stopped the car, abandoned her and fled on foot, police said.
The baby was uninjured.
The suspect was still on the loose Sunday.
He was described only as wearing a white sweatshirt.
