New York City faces spike in shootings, sees massive year-to-date increases over 2020 and 2019

Shootings in the Big Apple have spiked compared to previous years.

While there were a whopping 42 shooting incidents between April 26 and and May 2, there were just 14 within the same timeframe in 2020, official figures indicate, according to the New York Post.

The outlet said that CompStat data indicates that 49 individuals were either left dead or hurt last week due to gun violence, while 50 were shot the previous week.

The Post reported that year-to-date data indicates that the quantity of shootings has skyrocketed by 83.3% compared to 2020 and 93.5% compared to 2019.

“The mayor has to stop blaming COVID for people shooting each other like it’s the Wild West,” an NYPD supervisor in Manhattan remarked, according to the outlet.
