King Charles pays homage to Queen Elizabeth on U.K. Mother’s Day

King Charles paid tribute to his mom, Queen Elizabeth II, on United Kingdom’s Mother’s Day.

In September, the Queen died at age 96 at her palace in Scotland, Balmoral Castle.

She reigned for 70 years.

On the official Instagram page for the British Royal Family, they posted a photo of the King alongside his mom, Queen Elizabeth, when he appeared to be only a few years old.

“To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special #MothersDay,” the caption of the photo read.

The post included a photo of Camilla, Queen Consort, with her mother, Rosalind Shand, who passed in 1994 from osteoporosis, a bone disease.

In the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day is celebrated in March.

It is different than the United States’ version of the holiday, as it first began as a “church tradition” overseas, according to Metro UK, called “Mothering Sunday.”

The outlet explained that in The U.K., it takes place three weeks before Easter, and on the fourth Sunday of Lent.

The royal family’s Instagram post comes before the King’s coronation is set to take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey.

It will mark the official transfer of title and powers to The King, according to The BBC.

It is unclear if Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will be attending the coronation, as there has yet to be any formal announcement either way.

One report claimed that Harry will attend the event, but without Markle.

While appearing on an episode of Tuesday’s CBS Mornings with friend Gayle King, Oprah, who did the bombshell Meghan Markle interview two years ago, weighed in on their possible attendance.

“Do you think they should go, do you think they should not go? Is it something you’d like to comment on? I’m listening,” King, 68, asked Oprah.

The Instagram post also showed a photo of Camila and her mother.

In response, the star replied, “I think they should do what they feel is best for them and their family. That’s what I think.”

She also noted that the couple have not asked for her opinion.
