Democratic lawmakers are pushing for passage of a bill that would prevent adoption providers from implementing guidelines that exclude lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) parents.

Rep. Danny Davis and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand have formally reintroduced the Every Child Deserves a Family Act, which would prohibit “discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or religion in the provision of child welfare programs and services by entities receiving federal funding,” according to an official summary of the bill. The legislation has been renamed the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act for its previous sponsor, the late Georgia Democratic Rep. John Lewis.

Davis said that children in foster care are among the most vulnerable individuals in society.

“Government has a unique responsibility to ensure that each and every child in foster care finds a loving, affirming family, not just the right ones, not just the black ones, not just the Christian ones, and not just the straight ones,” Davis, an Illinois Democrat, said during a news conference about the bill hosted by the organization Family Equality. “Although there is a shortage of foster parents in every state, several states allow taxpayer-funded agencies to turn away otherwise qualified, caring parents due to their religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or marital status.”

Gillibrand said that no adoption providers should be allowed to turn away parents based on their religion, marital status or gender.

“There are so many families who are ready, willing and waiting to bring these children into their homes but are blocked from doing so by organizations that discriminate against potential parents based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or religion, and this has to change,” she said.

“Organizations that receive taxpayer dollars cannot be allowed to discriminate against caring and responsible foster and adoptive parents,” she added. “Our legislation would end this outrageous discriminatory policy, help give more children a loving home and create a system that supports the best interest of our children, foster and adoptive parents alike.”

Gillibrand also said the bill would ban conversion therapy in foster care.

“Our bill would prohibit discrimination against children and youth in foster care systems on the basis of religion, gender identity, sexual orientation and would bar harmful practices like conversion therapy in foster care,” she said. “That is especially important because LGBTQ youth are overrepresented in foster care. Our legislation would require data collection on LGBTQ youth and families so that we can better monitor those trends and issues, and it would establish a dedicated National Resource Center for the LGBTQ youth in foster care within the Department of HHS.”

The New York Democrat argued that the bill is long overdue.

“I believe that everyone has a right to have a loving and supportive family and this legislation will help us make that right a reality for more parents and more children,” she said.

‘Straight into ENEMY FIRE’: Dick Durbin plays D-Day card when discussing… Dem plan to end FILIBUSTER?!

Published

on

There is more hyperbole in the Senate than there are GRAINS OF SAND IN THE KNOWN OR UNKNOWN UNIVERSE. But sometimes it goes beyond ridiculous exaggeration and achieves “blatantly offensive.” Something known to happen especially in the case of one Dick Durbin, dramatist and self-regard enthusiast.

Here, Durbin is discussing the dumb Democrat plan to eradicate the filibuster and achieve ultimate power (for a while, until they aren’t the majority) and rather than realizing his shortsightnedness, he ups the debate about a hundred notches from its already absurdly high level of rhetoric and invokes the Greatest Generation and their sacrifices at one of history’s most significant military actions: D-Day.

Really, Dick? Tyranny? Running straight into enemy fire? PRESERVE DEMOCRACY?

It is better, folks, to not invoke Hitler or the troops or dying in battle or, you know, any MAXIMUM MOMENT when you’re talking about something like senate procedures. You can’t go around claiming you want to “cool” the “rhetoric” and be “bipartisan” when you’re assigning people to the roles of Nazi and Liberator in your little Risk-inspired passion play. Okay?

GOP Congressman Carl supports pending resolution to remove Omar from committee assignments

Published

on

Alabama Republican Rep. Jerry Carl told Just the News on Monday that he supports an upcoming resolution to remove Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from her committee assignments after a recent statement in which she appeared to equate the U.S. and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban.

Carl said House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy is expected to introduce the resolution this week.

Omar wrote on Twitter last week about “unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.”

She later attempted to clarify her statement saying she was “in no way equating terrorist organizations with democratic countries.” Omar has received backlash in the past about some of her remarks related to Israel.

Carl said Omar’s latest statement was not a gaffe.

“If she said it once, that would be a gaffe. I mean, we all make those as elected officials and hang on every word, but she’s taken a stab at the America as a country several times. She doesn’t like America, she doesn’t like Christianity,” he said during “Just the News AM” on Monday.

“Kevin McCarthy will bring it up this week,” he also said. “We’ll see if we can push it for a vote and see if we can get her voted off her committee. She has no business on that committee if she’s going to be that radical. She needs to be protesting somewhere, not in Washington, D.C.”

Omar is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee.

“The Democrat Party is protecting her. My question is, the Jewish members and Democrat Party, how are they going to respond if we can get it on the floor for a vote? I think it would be very hard to support her, very hard. I couldn’t imagine why they would want to knowing that she has, you know, spoken such atrocities to their entire culture,” Carl said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked on Friday whether she thinks further action is needed against Omar as a result of her controversial statement.

“I don’t,” she replied.

Pelosi said she’s not concerned about the divide her statement might cause within the Democratic Party.

“I think that she clarified her remarks  … and we accepted that. And she has a point that she wants to make and she has a right to make that point,” she said. “There was some unease about how it was interpreted.  She made her clarification.”

Carl revealed that he will support McCarthy’s resolution when it is formally introduced.

“I would love to; I would jump on that in a heartbeat. I couldn’t imagine anyone not whether you’re Republican or Democrat, I mean, she sealed her own fate when she spoke it, not once, but several times,” he said.

Carl pointed out that it will take more than McCarthy and the Republicans to remove Omar from her committee assignments.

“But there are people within the Democrat Party that can encourage and force her to do it. Pelosi is doing what Pelosi has always done. She’ll cover for her own. She’s done a very good job of it and on the other hand, when a Republican gets out of line, it’s just pure attack attack attack,” he said. “So we’ve got to hold her feet to the fire on this one. I think we have every right to, I think, as a Christian nation; I think as a Jewish nation.”

Ilhan Omar retweeted video by anti-Israel group previously probed by FBI

Published

Representative Ilhan Omar retweeted a video produced by the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), an anti-Israel organization that was investigated by the FBI for possible links to terrorism.

In the video, people are carrying a child and someone can be heard saying in English, “What are you doing to him? It’s a little child!”

According to Fox News, the video shows Israeli police carrying a Palestinian child.

“It is clear, however, that the FBI conducted at least two major investigations into ISM. In addition to the international terrorism investigation into the two St. Louis activists, the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office initiated a domestic security investigation into ISM as an organization,” The Intercept noted last year. “Nothing in the documents suggests any of these investigations ever resulted in criminal charges,” The Intercept reported.
