Mask Mandate

2nd Grader Being Punished For Not Wearing Masks…Tells School Board: “I hope ya’ll go to jail for doing this to me”

In Florida, an 8-year-old has been suspended 36 times for not wearing her mask in school. However, she’s not letting herself be pushed around and has stood up in front of her school board twice now to give them a piece of her mind.

In a video of Fiona standing up in front of the local school board, she explained her situation, saying, “I am going to get suspended if I don’t wear a mask for three more days. Just because I get suspended for not wearing a mask isn’t going to change my mind.”

“You can keep suspending me… I still have the right not to wear a mask,” Fiona said, defending her freedom, “It is not fair that I’m getting punished because you guys, the school board, are not following the law. That is not fair, it just isn’t right, I’m still going to stand up for what I believe in and nothing’s gonna change my mind.”

Gov. DeSantis passed an executive order making face masks optional in schools. However, there are some districts where the school boards continue to force everyone to wear a mask.

Since Fiona’s district falls into the “mask mandate” category, she makes it clear to the board in her speech that they are not following the law and, without inhibition, declares, “I hope ya’ll go to jail”.

This second-grader has a lot more bravery than a lot of adults do right now to stand up for herself despite the consequences she faces. According to Fiona’s mother, “[Fiona] was recently told after completing every assignment her teacher will provide that she is not only failing 2nd grade but that there is no way she could catch up, per her teacher.”

According to NewsNation, Fiona’s school district will lift the mask mandate on November 15.
